Aurizon acquired naming rights to 175 Eagle Street Brisbane and in 2013, decided to install signage on the rooftop. The local Council had restrictions on the size and quantity of signs that could be displayed on a building rooftop. Our Council liaison team met with assessment officers on site to work through various options that would satisfy Council guidelines and meet the client’s objectives.
Due to limited roof access, it was important to design the new signage with low maintenance components. Polycarbonate, long life vinyl, LEDs, aluminium and stainless steel were selected to deliver maximum longevity and minimum maintenance. As the fascia was clad in Bondor panels, the support brackets needed to be cantilevered out through the panels from internal structural beams. The building owner also insisted the structure was engineered to withstand a “one-in-500-year” storm event which required extreme structural measures.
